Mike Tegland | Selected Works 2007-2011

April 2nd, 2012 | Events, News, RNG Gallery

Opening Reception | Friday, April 13 from 7-10pm
The show will continue through May 6, 2012
Open to the Public

I first saw Tegland’s work at The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts Annual Art Auctions. Tegland’s work stood out. At that time, I had never heard of the artist, nor had I ever seen work like his. The black paintings with graphite drawing atop, were magical. The way the light hits the works create a living thriving piece of art.

Almost black on black, the graphite lines bring shape and form in a graphic manner to the work. The work captivates the viewer to stay and watch them come to life.
I asked Mike are these paintings or drawings, he stated both. Tegland is an artist that works and stays out of the spotlight. He works for the art of the art. This will be his first solo show and so over due. His talents are known by The Bemis and many art collectors. Come see the work. One of the greatest aspects of having a gallery is the ability to find and show the works of top notch artist like Mike Tegland.

There will no Art Talk for this show, the work speaks volumes.

Borders and Fences | New Works by Josh Powell

January 27th, 2012 | Events, News, RNG Gallery

Opening Reception | Friday, February 10 from 7 – 10pm
Open to the Public

In this show, the work is very different then what Powell has exhibited in the past and even in his last show “Golden Guts” at The bemisUNDERGROUND. This new direction, Josh rethinks painting and the subjects that he has painted prior to this exhibition. Gone are the cultural figures woven though the canvas, missing are the fast action shapes that haunt the corners and most of all is the absence of any forms, figures or foreshadowing.

The paintings are monochromatic, solid colors with a 1970′s minimum feel. Painted on small rectangles that are arranged to be an symbol, an outline of a step pyramid. Even their shapes recall the fluorescent light art of the 1970′s. Minimal art lets the artist escape from the over populated world and express the basic. Is Powell cleaning out his catch – all – draw, freeing his mind from the day to day madness or his he embracing a new look on life, art and mind.

Less is more here at this exhibition. The surface of the paint and the grain of the canvas are the image. Within these the viewer will explore their own borders and fences. Will they set themselves free or corral their thoughts and tame themselves to a centered place?

Powell will explain his new direction and reasons for this new body of work at the Art Talk, Saturday, February 11 at Noon. Pick his mind, ask questions and see the art and artist interact. The Art Talk is open to the public.

Show continues through March 4, 2012

The Gardener of Eden
Photographs by Rob Gilmer

Opening Reception | Friday, January 13 from 7 – 10pm

Open to the Public
Show continues through February 5, 2012

Art Talk | Saturday, January 14 at Noon

Who was the keeper of the garden? Who tended to the apple tree? The pear tree, the asparagus patch, the strawberries, the kohlrabi, the thyme, the roots that went so deep into the earth? Merritt Gil Gilmer did, he created an Eden for his family to reap, frolic in and to dream.

I would spend hours reading, hidden in the mist of a bamboo grove, place all of the old wooden chairs from the house throughout the yard to photograph, look for the hobo that spend time in the old apple orchard, and sit in the middle of the organic gardens and gorge on the freshest gifts. An Eden, yes. Plus, I had a pony. Dad bought him from a drunken sailor.

This show looks at what Dad touched and how he influenced my vision as a photographer. It asks this pained heart, what is here and what is there, the space between life and death. I am just a mere mortal who takes tons of photographs and asks a lot of questions.

There are 2 more shows opening this same weekend. Both are at The Hot Shops, 1301 Nicholas Street in Omaha.

On Saturday, January 14Th 2012

The RNG Gallery is proud to announce it’s 2nd show in the new Council Bluffs Location

December 5th, 2011 | Events, News, RNG Gallery

CRUSH
Amy Morin Quinn
Rob Quinn
Nolan Tredway

157 West Broadway, Council Bluffs, Iowa
(712) 256-4140

Art Talk: Saturday, December 10 at Noon

Open to the Public

Morin Quinn, Quinn and Tredway have created a gaggle of gagged geese, a school of fishy fowl, a pride of not so cowardly lions, a litter of pup tents and a troop of babbling bubbling baboons. To put it in other words, the cutest woodland creatures ever dreamed, seen and released into captivity.

With the wide use of materials, fabric to clay, paint to faux fur and wood to wire these three artist tap into the minds of the inner child we lost months ago. Or was it years ago for some of us? If you wanted to know where the wild things are, they are right here at the RNG Gallery. The Grimms and the Coens could not have thought up this lot, this brotherhood from a branch in the missing link’s family tree.
Many of these monsters, animals and things make great holiday gifts, for yourself or others. We will see you at the opening and please bring your butterfly nets to safely capture the ones that will melt your heart.

The Gallery and restaurant hours are:
Lunch: Tuesday – Friday from 10pm to 2pm

The newest edition of what you’ve been missing.
Works by JEFF KING

Show continues through August 14, 2011
Open to the Public
Also by Appointment

RNG Gallery
1915 Leavenworth Street

Jeff’s paintings are fresh, modern and witty. King uses street scrip through out his works, to inform, to intertwine and to intrigue the viewer. Characters rump through many of the canvas. Imagine a Post Blue-less Smuf lovechild, conceived with a Japanese Anime Pinocchio, playing in fields of graffiti. This is the world King creates in this forward thinking body of work. ” the newest edition of what you’ve been missing” is a must visit and view show. The title is magnificent, the show is magnificent.

This show is the last show at The RNG Gallery’s Leavenworth Street location. A great ending to a wonderful trip. The RNG Gallery and Dixie Quicks will be moving to Council Bluffs in the fall of 2011.

Lori now lives in San Francisco, but is both home. It is an honor
for The RNG Gallery to debut her work in her Home state. Pferd
is a German for horse. The title is significant to the theme of
the show and to the artist, for the title honors her grandfather
Ferdinand.

“Horses are strong, stoic, true creatures and burden carriers
that embody beauty and a powerful silence. All of this could
also be stated as characteristics of the Midwest, Great Plains
landscape of Nebraska and it’s people.” Lori Schafer

Come and enjoy the great art and meet the artist. A
wonderful aspect of having the RNG Gallery is to bring
out of state artists to Omaha and giving the people of
the Omaha Metro Area a chance to see new amazing
art. This show will be one of the last shows at The RNG’s
