Dixie Quicks – Not Just Another ‘Pa and Pa’ Restaurant
Story and Photos By Ken Mayer
What makes Dixie Quicks wonderful is that it doesn’t try to be all things to all people. Its approach is the polar opposite of the corporate-dining and manufactured-food scene where the customer is always right.
“They have created a monster of a customer. We can’t afford to do that. We are a little ‘Pa and Pa’ restaurant. I’ve actually told people, if you don’t like it, go to Applebee’s,” Gilmer said. “We do our own little thing. We are inviting you in. We are open to everyone and we love everyone, but don’t piss us off.”
But there’s little chance you’ll annoy these two, as long as you and your youngsters are polite.
“A lot of people leave their [manners] at home, unfortunately,” Orduña said.
He recalled a phone call from one customer.
“Are you kid-friendly?” she asked.
He responded,”Well, it depends on how friendly the child is.”
