Yinghua creates wonderful from the common, she masters time,
using it to ponder and to create. Most artists use one, maybe two
and at times three dimensions, Zhu uses all of these plus the
fourth dimension.
Zhu will transfer The RNG Gallery into a place I have been before.
Being in the pre-dawn light, filtered through a heavy fog as I stand at
the high water mark, where moss gives way to boulders, rocks, stones,
pebbles and sand.
See you standing among the creation of Zhu.

Freeman and McGilvrey have been part of the art scene in the Omaha Metro for almost 15 years. Their works are as different as their personalities. From the different subjects to the different mediums, this show will stride across the boundaries of the masterful paint strokes of Freeman to the working of the earth by McGilvrey. The subjects will leave the viewer pondering on the intellect or reminders of your childhood fears, just behind the ajar closet door.

Kim Reid – Kuhn is a painter that paints more then what is in our world.
She creates new worlds of abstractions, which reveals glimpses of familiar
worldly experiences. All aspects of Reid – Kuhn’s works are thought out
and painted with her slanted twisted editorial eye.
Kim as been painting larger this pass year. One of the paintings is
approx. 10 feet tall. She has been expanding her vision, it has been
maturing and expanding to new apexes.
This show will be an important exhibition in Kim’s career. It is a show that sparks
new ideas and directions. A must see show for a major artist in the
Omaha – Council Bluffs Metro Area.

There will be an Art Talk Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Noon. This will
be a very interesting Art Talk. It will be wonderful to her Kim’s
thoughts on her painting and the process behind it.

Show runs to September 2, 2012.

RNG Gallery | Susan Knight

May 30th, 2012 | Events, News, RNG Gallery

I am proud to announce the new art exhibition at The RNG Gallery.

Opening Reception | Friday, June 8 from 7 – 10pm
Special Dance on Opening Night at 8pm
Choreographed by Josie Metal-Corbin

Art Talk | Saturday, June 9 at Noon
Show continues through July 8, 2012

Susan Knight is an artist that does not play by the rules; the materials she uses, the techniques in the creation of her work are radical and the concepts behind the work run deep. In the studio Knight will cut where others paint, erase where artists draw.

Water is the subject of Glimpses, there is not a force in nature that is more powerful then water. The power depends on the volume; a small amount – calm, peaceful and creative, an over abundance – fierce, violent and creative. Knight explores the forces of water in her work. Celebrate the element and let’s protect it.

Mike Tegland | Selected Works 2007-2011

April 2nd, 2012 | Events, News, RNG Gallery

Opening Reception | Friday, April 13 from 7-10pm
The show will continue through May 6, 2012
Open to the Public

I first saw Tegland’s work at The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts Annual Art Auctions. Tegland’s work stood out. At that time, I had never heard of the artist, nor had I ever seen work like his. The black paintings with graphite drawing atop, were magical. The way the light hits the works create a living thriving piece of art.

Almost black on black, the graphite lines bring shape and form in a graphic manner to the work. The work captivates the viewer to stay and watch them come to life.
I asked Mike are these paintings or drawings, he stated both. Tegland is an artist that works and stays out of the spotlight. He works for the art of the art. This will be his first solo show and so over due. His talents are known by The Bemis and many art collectors. Come see the work. One of the greatest aspects of having a gallery is the ability to find and show the works of top notch artist like Mike Tegland.

There will no Art Talk for this show, the work speaks volumes.

Borders and Fences | New Works by Josh Powell

January 27th, 2012 | Events, News, RNG Gallery

Opening Reception | Friday, February 10 from 7 – 10pm
Open to the Public

In this show, the work is very different then what Powell has exhibited in the past and even in his last show “Golden Guts” at The bemisUNDERGROUND. This new direction, Josh rethinks painting and the subjects that he has painted prior to this exhibition. Gone are the cultural figures woven though the canvas, missing are the fast action shapes that haunt the corners and most of all is the absence of any forms, figures or foreshadowing.

The paintings are monochromatic, solid colors with a 1970’s minimum feel. Painted on small rectangles that are arranged to be an symbol, an outline of a step pyramid. Even their shapes recall the fluorescent light art of the 1970’s. Minimal art lets the artist escape from the over populated world and express the basic. Is Powell cleaning out his catch – all – draw, freeing his mind from the day to day madness or his he embracing a new look on life, art and mind.

Less is more here at this exhibition. The surface of the paint and the grain of the canvas are the image. Within these the viewer will explore their own borders and fences. Will they set themselves free or corral their thoughts and tame themselves to a centered place?

Powell will explain his new direction and reasons for this new body of work at the Art Talk, Saturday, February 11 at Noon. Pick his mind, ask questions and see the art and artist interact. The Art Talk is open to the public.

Show continues through March 4, 2012

The Gardener of Eden
Photographs by Rob Gilmer

Opening Reception | Friday, January 13 from 7 – 10pm

Open to the Public
Show continues through February 5, 2012

Art Talk | Saturday, January 14 at Noon

Who was the keeper of the garden? Who tended to the apple tree? The pear tree, the asparagus patch, the strawberries, the kohlrabi, the thyme, the roots that went so deep into the earth? Merritt Gil Gilmer did, he created an Eden for his family to reap, frolic in and to dream.

I would spend hours reading, hidden in the mist of a bamboo grove, place all of the old wooden chairs from the house throughout the yard to photograph, look for the hobo that spend time in the old apple orchard, and sit in the middle of the organic gardens and gorge on the freshest gifts. An Eden, yes. Plus, I had a pony. Dad bought him from a drunken sailor.

This show looks at what Dad touched and how he influenced my vision as a photographer. It asks this pained heart, what is here and what is there, the space between life and death. I am just a mere mortal who takes tons of photographs and asks a lot of questions.

There are 2 more shows opening this same weekend. Both are at The Hot Shops, 1301 Nicholas Street in Omaha.

On Saturday, January 14Th 2012
